The "0 Euro" souvenir note series launched across Europe after the Banque de France began licensing officially styled collector notes in 2015. Euroscope, the Belgian firm that dominates this market, produces these under a framework that keeps them legal precisely because the face value is zero — they are not legal tender and bypass EU currency regulations entirely. The Tiroler Zugspitzbahn issue commemorates the rack railway running from Ehrwald up to the Zugspitzplatt on the Austrian side of the peak, distinct from the German Bayerische Zugspitzbahn on the opposite slope.

The watermark is genuine — Euroscope uses security paper stock to reinforce the collectible positioning, though the notes have no monetary function whatsoever.
