Zygmunt Kalinowski (1926–2022) was a Polish veteran of the Warsaw Uprising who became one of the longest-lived survivors of that 63-day insurrection against German occupation. This souvenir zero-euro note was issued in the year of his death, a detail that gives the commemorative purpose a particular weight. The Eurosouvenirs program, operating under ECB license since 2012, has issued hundreds of such pieces — but subjects tied to living or recently deceased witnesses to 20th-century atrocities are relatively rare in the catalog.

Oberthur Fiduciaire's involvement ensures genuine security features rather than the purely decorative treatments used by unlicensed souvenir printers.
