The Mariendom in Neviges — formally the Wallfahrtskirche Maria, Königin des Friedens — was designed by Gottfried Böhm and consecrated in 1968. It is one of the most radical examples of brutalist sacred architecture in Germany, its jagged concrete form intentionally evoking a mountain or a crown of thorns depending on who you ask. Böhm received the Pritzker Prize in 1986, the first German architect to do so.
The EuroSouvenir program operates under license from the European Central Bank, which permits these zero-denomination pieces as collectibles provided they cannot be mistaken for legal tender. Oberthur's involvement ensures genuine security paper and printing, which is why the physical object feels more convincing than its face value suggests.
