EuroSouvenir's zero-denomination collector notes have been produced under license from the European Central Bank since 2015, allowing private issuers to sell legal-look-alike notes — same Oberthur paper stock, same security features including the holographic strip — provided the face value is printed as zero and the design clearly departs from circulating euro imagery. Oberthur Fiduciaire, which prints actual euro banknotes for several eurozone nations, handles production here as well, which is precisely why the physical quality is indistinguishable from a genuine note fresh from the Banque de France.
Peanuts licensing for European souvenir merchandise expanded considerably in the years following Iconix Brand Group's acquisition of the franchise rights for certain territories. The "Snoopy besucht Österreich" edition targets the Austrian tourist market specifically — one of dozens of region-specific Snoopy variants issued the same year under the same EuroSouvenir program.
