The zero-euro souvenir note program, managed by the SBCA and printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire, has produced hundreds of these collector pieces since launching in 2015 — each assigned a unique serial number and technically legal tender in the eurozone, though no central bank will ever redeem one. Benfica's 115th anniversary edition fits neatly into the sports-club subset of this series, which sells primarily at club shops and visitor attractions rather than through banking channels.
Oberthur's security printing credentials lend the physical object genuine banknote feel — proper intaglio, UV-reactive inks, and a genuine EURion constellation — which is precisely the point of the format.
