The zero-euro souvenir note has become a surprisingly robust collector category since its introduction around 2015, sold at tourist sites across Europe as a licensed product rather than legal tender. Oberthur Fiduciaire produces the bulk of the series under arrangements with the European Central Bank, which permits the format provided the notes cannot be mistaken for genuine currency. The Camino de Santiago editions are among the more frequently issued regional variants — multiple designs have been released across different years, which complicates set-building for series collectors.
No monetary function, no legal standing. The interest here is entirely philatelic and topographical.
