The "poètes maudits" series from Euro Souvenir leans on Verlaine's own 1884 critical anthology of the same name — a collection in which he championed Corbière, Rimbaud, and Mallarmé as cursed, misunderstood poets working outside bourgeois literary approval. The irony of commemorating that anti-establishment gesture on a souvenir banknote printed by Oberthur, one of the most commercially successful security printers in France, is not subtle.
Zero-euro notes carry no legal tender status anywhere; they are sold directly to collectors and tourists, typically at a fixed retail price set by the issuing partner.
