The Bojnice Zoo souvenir euro series falls within the collector-driven zero-denomination novelty market that expanded sharply across Europe after the European Central Bank declined to prohibit non-monetary "0 euro" notes in 2015 — a decision that effectively legitimized the format overnight. Oberthur Fiduciaire, which prints genuine banknotes for multiple sovereign issuers, produces these on the same security substrate and with the same intaglio techniques used for circulating currency, which is precisely the point: the tactile experience is indistinguishable from a real note.

Bojnice Zoo, founded in 1954 and among the oldest in Slovakia, issued this as a visitor souvenir. The print run and distribution were managed entirely through the zoo's own retail channels.
