EuroSouvenir notes occupy a curious regulatory niche: they are issued under a legal framework that permits officially styled euro-format collector pieces without infringing on ECB currency law, provided the face value is zero. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of the major European security printers, produces the series under contract, which is why the physical quality — security thread, intaglio feel, UV-reactive elements — matches genuine euro banknote production standards more closely than most collectors expect from a souvenir item.

The Mozarthaus in Salzburg, where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in 1756, became one of the early confirmed subjects in the tourist-oriented series, with issue dates spanning 2017 to 2019.
