The zero-euro souvenir note is a collector format officially authorized by the European Central Bank, which permits private operators to issue legal-format banknotes denominated at zero — meaning they carry no face value, circulate as souvenirs, and are exempt from the regulations governing actual currency. Oberthur Fiduciaire prints them to full security specification, including genuine intaglio printing and a holographic strip, which is why they feel indistinguishable from circulating euro notes to the touch.

The Christmas-themed 2022 edition is one of dozens of seasonal releases in the format. Oberthur has printed the series since the concept launched in France around 2015.
