The Mémorial de Verdun souvenir note is part of the zero-euro collector series administered by UEFP, which since 2015 has produced these legal-tender-adjacent novelties in collaboration with the Banque de France's approved printers. Oberthur Fiduciaire handles a significant portion of the series and applies genuine security printing — including intaglio and UV-reactive features — to what is functionally a tourist keepsake.

Verdun's memorial was substantially rebuilt and reopened in 2016 after a major renovation, which gave the site renewed commercial and commemorative prominence. The 2022 issue date aligns with continued postwar centenary programming in the Meuse region.
