EuroSouvenir's 0 Euro program, licensed through the European Central Bank and printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire under the same security specifications as circulating euro notes — including the distinctive feel of the substrate — was designed from the outset to be collected rather than spent. The Machu Picchu edition is a telling choice: a Peruvian archaeological site on a note denominated in a currency Peru has never used, sold primarily at tourist shops and museum gift counters across Europe.
Oberthur's involvement gives these novelty pieces genuine technical credibility. The intaglio printing and security thread are real, not decorative.
