Oberthur's zero-euro souvenir series has become a minor industry unto itself, and this piece — tied to the Carrières des Lumières immersive projection show in the old limestone quarries at Les Baux-de-Provence — is a straight collectible with no monetary function and no legal tender status anywhere. The quarries themselves are genuinely striking: former bauxite extraction sites cut into the Alpilles rock, repurposed in the 1970s for art installations and now drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors annually to the Bouches-du-Rhône.

Production by Oberthur means the security printing is technically identical to genuine euro notes — same intaglio feel, same paper specification — which is partly the point and partly what drives demand for the format among collectors who want "real" banknote production values without the currency risk.
