The Bleuet de France — the cornflower — has been France's official symbol of remembrance since 1935, adopted partly in response to the British poppy and partly because French and Belgian soldiers had taken to wearing cornflowers as an informal token of solidarity during the First World War. The souvenir zero-euro program gave it a natural home: commemorative issues printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire carry genuine security features despite having no legal tender status, which is precisely what sustains collector demand.
Oberthur has produced the bulk of the Eurosouvenirs catalog since the format launched around 2015. R. Faille's signature appears across multiple issues in the series — a house signatory rather than a named central bank official.
