The Belem is France's oldest surviving three-masted sailing vessel, built in Nantes in 1896 as a cargo ship for the cocoa trade with Brazil. She later served as a private yacht for the Duke of Westminster and then the Agnelli family before being repatriated to France in 1979 and restored. The 0 Euro souvenir series, launched by EuroSouvenir in 2016, uses legitimate Oberthur-produced security printing — the same house that prints numerous African and Asian currency issues — applied to a denomination that carries no legal tender obligation whatsoever.
