Maloya is the ceremonial music and dance of Réunion's Creole descendants of enslaved Africans, long suppressed by French colonial authorities and banned outright until 1981. Fet Kaf — Fête des Cafres — commemorates the abolition of slavery on the island on 20 December 1848, now a public holiday unique to Réunion. The pairing of subject and format is deliberate: a zero-denomination euro souvenir note issued under French monetary infrastructure, celebrating a history that French colonial policy spent over a century trying to erase.

Oberthur Fiduciaire printed this on genuine banknote paper with security features intact, which is standard for the EuroSouvenir program.
