The Grand Raid de La Réunion — known locally as "la Diagonale des Fous," the Diagonal of the Madmen — is an ultramarathon that crosses the island's volcanic interior, covering roughly 165 kilometers with over 10,000 meters of elevation gain. It is one of the most technically demanding trail races in the world, which makes it an unusual but entirely fitting subject for a souvenir piece from a French overseas territory with very little flat ground to its name.
Oberthur printed the 0 Euro souvenir series under official EuroSouvenir licensing, giving these notes genuine security paper and legal-adjacent production values despite carrying no monetary function whatsoever.
