The EuroSouvenir 0 Euro program, administered through licensed regional distributors and printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire, has produced hundreds of collector pieces since 2015 — each legally valid as euro-denominated paper but carrying no practical monetary value by design. Grutas de Mira de Aire, located in the municipality of Porto de Mós in Portugal's Estremadura region, is the largest known cave system in Portugal, discovered in 1947 during road construction works and opened to the public in 1974.
Oberthur's security printing credentials are genuine — the firm handles real currency production for multiple central banks — making these souvenir notes technically sophisticated despite their commemorative nature.
