The EuroSouvenir program, launched by a consortium of European printers working under ECB approval, produces these collector pieces as legal-format novelties — same substrate and security features as genuine euro banknotes, but with a face value of zero, precluding any fraud issue. Oberthur Fiduciaire's involvement is unsurprising; the Tours-based firm has printed currency for dozens of sovereign states and holds ECB security printing certification.

The "GP Italy" designation places this in the Grand Prix souvenir subseries, issued for the 2020 Italian Formula 1 race — a season run entirely without spectators due to COVID-19 restrictions, which gives this otherwise lightweight item an inadvertently documentary quality.
