Gouvães do Douro is a small parish in the Peso da Régua municipality, sitting at the edge of the Douro wine country. The Fonte — a public fountain — is the kind of hyper-local subject that defines the souvenir 0 Euro collector series, which Oberthur Fiduciaire has produced for hundreds of European municipalities since the format launched around 2015. Legal tender in name only, these notes are issued under a European license that permits face-value denomination without any obligation of exchange by a central bank.
