The D-Day Experience 0 Euro souvenir was issued in 2019 as part of the broader EuroSouvenir program coordinated by the Union Européenne des Journaux Numismatiques, which licenses the euro format to tourist sites, museums, and cultural institutions across France and beyond. These notes carry no legal tender status whatsoever — the Banque de France has been explicit on that point — but Oberthur Fiduciaire produces them to genuine security printing standards, including UV-reactive elements and an official EURion constellation, which creates the slightly absurd situation of a worthless novelty being printed with the same rigor as circulating currency.
The 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings drove a concentrated wave of such releases in 2019.
