The 0 Euro souvenir note program, administered by the European Banknote Memory Organization (EBMO) and printed exclusively by Oberthur Fiduciaire, launched in 2015 as a licensed collectible series sold through tourist venues across Europe and beyond. Cristo Redentor sits firmly outside the eurozone, which makes this particular issue one of the more geographically liberal entries in the catalog — the program has expanded well past its original European scope, issuing notes tied to landmarks in Brazil, Egypt, and elsewhere with no pretense of monetary function whatsoever.
Legal tender value is zero by design. Oberthur nonetheless applies genuine security features — watermark and hologram — to the substrate, partly for anti-counterfeiting credibility and partly because the same presses run both real currency and these collectibles.
