The Clos Lucé manor in Amboise is where Leonardo da Vinci spent the final three years of his life, invited by François I and housed at royal expense until his death in 1519. The 0 Euro souvenir series — commercially issued by EuroSouvenir and printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire to legal technical specifications — has no face value and no monetary function, but Oberthur's involvement means the security printing genuinely meets the standards applied to circulating euro notes.
Clos Lucé is one of the more defensible subjects in the series, given the site's direct connection to a figure of unambiguous historical weight.
