The zero euro souvenir note program, administered by the UEAM, launched in 2015 as an officially licensed novelty — printed to legal-tender specification by authorized security printers but assigned no face value, neatly sidestepping any EU monetary regulation. Oberthur's involvement guarantees the full suite of genuine banknote security features: intaglio printing, UV-reactive elements, a metallic strip. Collectors pay several euros for a note worth none.

Chenonceau is among the higher-volume sites in the French souvenir note market, given its status as the second most-visited château in France after Versailles.
