The zero euro souvenir note program, administered through licensed distributors across European tourist sites, has been running since 2015 — a private commercial venture that exploits the legal right to issue denominations of zero, which carry no monetary value and require no central bank authorization. Oberthur Fiduciaire prints them to genuine banknote specification, which is precisely why collectors treat them seriously. Château de Carrouges, a Norman château in the Orne department managed under the CMN portfolio, joined the program in 2023.
