The zero-euro souvenir note program launched in 2015 under the European Legal Tender collector scheme, with Oberthur Fiduciaire handling production for most of the series. These notes carry genuine euro security features — the same foil strip, UV-reactive inks, and microprinting used on circulating currency — because EU regulations technically permit their issue at face value, even if no rational person would spend one. The centenary of the 1918 Armistice was among the more heavily produced themes in the 2018 release calendar, meaning surviving examples are common.
