The 0 Euro souvenir note program, run through licensed issuers across Europe, has produced hundreds of site-specific releases since its commercial launch around 2015. Oberthur Fiduciaire prints these to full banknote specification — same security paper, same intaglio feel — despite their having no monetary function whatsoever. The Carrières de Lumières edition tied to the Van Gogh immersive projection show is among the more commercially successful of the French cultural releases, the site at Les Baux-de-Provence having become one of the most visited attractions in the south of France.
The 0 Euro series is technically legal tender in denomination only — the European Central Bank confirmed these carry face value status — but no issuing central bank backs them.
