EuroSouvenir's zero-euro souvenir note program, launched in France around 2015, exploits genuine legal tender banknote printing infrastructure to produce collectible items with no monetary obligation — clever, given that most countries prohibit reproducing currency imagery even for commemorative purposes. The Baie de Somme issue was printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of Europe's major security printers, meaning the paper, serial numbering, and UV-reactive inks meet the same technical specifications as circulating French institutional issues. The denomination of zero makes them legally unambiguous while preserving the physical language of real currency.
Oberthur's Chantepie facility near Rennes handled production for much of the early EuroSouvenir catalog.
