The 0 Euro souvenir note program launched in France around 2015 and quickly expanded across Europe, with Oberthur Fiduciaire handling the bulk of production under licensing arrangements with the European Central Bank — which permits the "Euro" name and format on non-legal-tender items provided strict size and design rules are followed. The Atomium in Brussels, built for the 1958 World's Fair and originally intended as a temporary structure, became one of the more coveted subjects in the series given its architectural oddity and the anniversary hook of its 60th year.
Collectors should note that print runs vary significantly between tourist sites and are not always disclosed — scarcity on some issues is genuine, on others entirely manufactured.
