The zero-euro souvenir note was introduced commercially in 2015, with Oberthur Fiduciaire holding the exclusive contract to produce them for European tourist sites and cultural institutions. Each participating venue commissions its own design and orders a fixed print run — typically between 5,000 and 10,000 units — sold directly to visitors as collectibles. They carry no face value, no redemption right, and are not legal tender in any jurisdiction, though they replicate euro banknote security features including the embedded holographic strip.

Marineland Antibes, opened in 1970 as France's first marine animal park, was among the earlier French attractions to issue one.
