The 0 Euro souvenir program was launched in 2015 by Richard Faille's company EuroSouvenir, with Oberthur Fiduciaire handling production under the same security-printing specifications applied to genuine euro banknotes — intaglio printing, ultraviolet-reactive fibers, and a holographic strip. The legal tender value is exactly nothing, but European Central Bank regulations required that the zero denomination be clearly stated to prevent any possibility of fraudulent use.

Amsterdam was among the first wave of tourist-destination issues. Collectors should note that Oberthur's involvement gives these notes a production quality that most souvenir currency never achieves.
