EuroSouvenir notes occupy a curious legal niche — they are printed to European Central Bank dimensional and security specifications, giving them the physical feel of genuine currency, but they carry no face value and are explicitly excluded from legal tender status. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of the handful of security printers authorized to produce them, brings the same production standards applied to actual euro banknotes.
The Dumas tie-in references the 1844 serialization of Les Trois Mousquetaires in Le Siècle — a detail worth knowing, since most buyers assume it was published as a novel outright.
