The 0 euro souvenir note program, administered by EuroSouvenir and printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire in Rennes, launched in 2015 as a legal-tender-adjacent collectible — technically issued with a face value of zero, which exempts it from currency regulations while still carrying the security features of genuine euro banknotes. Birgit Kinder, the German painter whose 1990 canvas of a Trabant punching through the Wall became one of the defining images of reunification, is the credited designer here, lending the series an unusual degree of artistic provenance.
