L'Arboç is a small municipality in the Baix Penedès comarca of Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan towns it issued its own emergency fractional currency during the Spanish Civil War after the Republican government's coin shortage made small-change transactions nearly impossible. These locally authorized notes — called *moneda municipal* or, more colloquially, *moneda de necessitat* — were typically printed by whatever press happened to be nearby. Arts Gràfiques Barnadas in El Vendrell, just a few kilometers away, handled several issues for surrounding municipalities in the comarca.

Turró's catalog remains the primary reference for this material, and #174 places this issue firmly within the documented Catalan local emission series of 1936–1937.
