Benilloba is a village in the Comtat, a comarca of Alicante province, with a population that barely exceeded a few hundred during the Civil War years. Like dozens of similarly small municipalities across Republican-held Spain in 1937, the local council issued its own fractional paper currency to address the near-total disappearance of small coinage — hoarded, melted, or simply gone from circulation as the war disrupted normal monetary flows. These emergency municipal emissions were never coordinated by any central authority; each ayuntamiento or consejo acted on its own initiative.

Gari Montllor's catalog of Valencia region wartime issues documents this as type 306-B, implying at least one variant exists for the series.
