Industrial Montalfita, S.A. was among the hundreds of Catalan industrial firms and municipalities that issued fractional emergency notes — known as *moneda de paper* or *vales* — during the Spanish Civil War, when Republican-held Catalonia experienced a near-total collapse of small-denomination coinage in circulation. These notes were a local, improvised fix, not an authorized monetary instrument, and their legal standing was always ambiguous.

Barcelona-district industrial issues like this one are catalogued in the Andreu-Lluís corpus but remain poorly documented compared to municipal issues — production runs, redemption histories, and even the precise nature of Montalfita's business are difficult to confirm from surviving records.
