Juneda is a small agricultural town in the Garrigues comarca of Lleida, and like hundreds of Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency fractional currency when coin shortages made small transactions impossible. The Republican government's inability to maintain adequate coinage supply forced this patchwork of local paper into everyday use from 1936 onward.
The Turró catalog documents over 1,800 distinct Catalan municipal issues from this period. Juneda's entry is among the more obscure — surviving examples turn up rarely, reflecting both the limited original print run and the near-total disruption of the region following the Nationalist advance through Lleida in early 1938.
