Villa Durruti was the name briefly adopted by the Catalan municipality of Mas de las Matas (Teruel) following the anarchist militias' advance through Aragon in the summer of 1936. The renaming honored Buenaventura Durruti, the CNT-FAI commander killed at Madrid in November 1936. Like dozens of collectivized communities across Republican-held Aragon, the local council issued its own fractional emergency currency — moneda de necesidad — because small change had effectively vanished from circulation, hoarded or simply absent in a war economy.
The official stamp served as the primary authentication mechanism, which means condition varies wildly depending on how firmly and cleanly the stamp was applied at issue.
