Adzaneta — now properly Atzeneta del Maestrat — was one of hundreds of Valencian municipalities that issued emergency fractional paper during the Civil War after Republican authorities failed to maintain an adequate supply of small change in the loyalist zone. These hyper-local issues, often produced on whatever card stock was available at a printer's or even a stationer's shop, circulated only within the issuing municipality and were theoretically redeemable once normal coinage returned. They never were, in any meaningful sense.

The Garrió catalogue reference (Mon#11-A) suggests at least one variant exists, implying some degree of local improvisation even within a single denomination run.
