Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of Victor Emmanuel III (Vittorio Emanuele III), King of Italy and Emperor of Ethiopia, facing right, rendered in high relief with strongly modelled facial features. The engraver's name ROMAGNOLI appears incuse along the truncation of the neck. The circular legend around the periphery reads VITT·EM·III RE E IMP· MBRET E PER·, abbreviating his Italian and Albanian royal and imperial titles.

Reverse description A naturalistic spray of oak leaves with two acorns occupies the central field, symbolising strength and endurance. The denomination LEK 0.05 is boldly inscribed in the lower central field, with the date 1940 - XVIII below, the regnal year XVIII referring to the eighteenth year of Victor Emmanuel III's reign in the Fascist era calendar. The mint mark R (Rome) appears to the right of the oak spray. The legends SHQIPNI at the top and ALBANIA at the bottom arc around the periphery, giving both the Albanian and Latin names of the issuing country.
