Reverse description A large winged thunderbolt occupies the central field, depicted with spread wings and radiating bolts, serving as the principal device. Below the thunderbolt, a six-pointed star is placed in the lower field. A Greek legend, partially legible due to surface corrosion, is distributed around the periphery of the flan, reading KAIΣIEΣ EOYMENTHI, identifying the issuing community of Uxentum in the Messapian region of southern Italy.

Uxentum, modern Ugento in the heel of Apulia, was a Messapian settlement whose bronze coinage reflects the broader monetization of indigenous southern Italian communities during the late fourth and early third centuries BC — a period when Greek colonial influence and the pressure of Roman expansion were simultaneously reshaping regional economies. The Messapians had no earlier coinage tradition of their own; these bronzes represent the community's first and, for most types, only engagement with struck money.

The McClean reference places this piece among a small, well-documented group. Surviving specimens are few enough that die-link studies remain incomplete.
