Suessa Aurunca, a Latin colony in northern Campania, struck its own bronze coinage during a period when Rome was actively consolidating control over the region following the Latin War. The city retained nominal monetary autonomy while functioning firmly within Rome's political orbit — a common arrangement Rome extended to cooperative Latin communities before the Social War eventually ended such local issues altogether.
The SNG ANS concordance runs across five sequential catalogue numbers, suggesting enough surviving specimens to establish clear die linkages within the series.
