| Obverse description | Facing bust of Artemis (or a turreted deity, likely Tyche), depicted frontally and centered within the field, wearing a turreted crown with battlements rendered in low relief. The hair falls in loose strands framing the face on either side, and the draped shoulders are visible at the base of the bust. The style is typical of Hellenistic provincial bronze coinage of the Troad region, with a broad, slightly flattened flan and irregular edge. |

Abydos sat at the narrowest crossing of the Hellespont, and its coinage reflects a city whose importance was almost entirely geographic. The town collected tolls on Pontic grain traffic passing into the Aegean — a revenue stream that funded civic institutions and, evidently, a modest bronze coinage for local exchange during the late third century BC.
SNG Copenhagen 50 places this type firmly within a well-documented sequence, though die studies remain sparse compared to the city's silver issues.
