| Obverse description | Facing left, the bearded head of the river god Borysthenes rendered in high relief, with wild, flowing hair intertwined with reeds or aquatic vegetation — a distinctive iconographic attribute evoking the deity's association with the great Pontic river. The portrait is executed in a bold, expressive Hellenistic style characteristic of Olbian civic coinage of the early third century BC. The modelling of the face shows strong facial features with a prominent brow, deep-set eyes, and a full beard, consistent with ancient depictions of river gods in the Greek tradition. |
