Obverse description Youthful head of Hermes facing right, wearing a winged diadem; the hair rendered in flowing locks with fine engraving typical of late Metapontine coinage. A thyrsos is depicted behind the head in the left field. The portrait is executed in a competent Hellenistic style, with naturalistic facial features and a smooth neck truncation.

Reverse description Three barley-grains arranged radially from a central point, forming a triskeles-like composition emblematic of the agricultural wealth of Metapontion. A kerykeion (caduceus) is placed between two of the grains in the field. The ethnic legend ME appears in the field, serving as an abbreviated civic identifier of the issuing city.
