Stefan Batory introduced the trojak — a three-groszy piece — as part of a broader monetary reform intended to stabilize coinage across both halves of the Commonwealth, where Polish and Lithuanian mints had long produced incompatible currency. The Wilno mint operated under separate privilege from Kraków and Poznań, which is why Lithuanian trojaki carry distinct mint marks and differ subtly in die execution from their Crown counterparts. Collectors working this series must contend with the sheer number of die varieties across these years; the Iger references alone list over a dozen for Wilno in this span.
