| Beschrijving voorzijde | Crowned bust of Stefan Batory facing right, wearing a closed crown adorned with pellets and foliage, with a bearded and mustachioed visage rendered in bold relief. The king is depicted in armour with a ruffled collar visible at the truncation. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, separated from the portrait by the coin's inner field. The die-work is characteristic of the late sixteenth-century hammered coinage of the Wilno mint, with strong modelling of the facial features. The legend reads STEPH D G REX PO M D L, identifying Stefan Batory as King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania. |
