Suintila ruled from 621 until his deposition by the nobility in 631 — the first Iberian king, according to Isidore of Seville, to hold sole dominion over the entire peninsula following the expulsion of the last Byzantine enclaves from the southeast. His reign was productive enough monetarily, with mint activity documented across a range of Iberian cities. Eliberri, the Roman-era settlement underlying modern Granada, was one of the smaller mint sites operating under Visigothic authority.
CNV 288 is among the less frequently encountered Suintila mint attributions from the southern mints.
