Obverse description Right-facing bust of Emperor Mauricius Tiberius rendered in the late antique imperial tradition, depicted diademed with a beaded diadem, draped in a paludamentum fastened at the shoulder, and wearing a cuirass. The effigy is executed in shallow relief typical of hammered Byzantine gold coinage, with stylized facial features and finely incised drapery folds. The surrounding Latin legend runs along the coin's periphery. The irregular flan edges are characteristic of the hammered production technique of the period.
