Obverse description Facing bust of King Gundemaro depicted in the late Visigothic stylized manner, shown front-facing with an elaborate diademed crown surmounted by a cross, wearing a beaded collar and draped garments rendered in schematic horizontal lines. The effigy is surrounded by highly stylized letter forms constituting the royal legend, arranged around the bust within a beaded border. The overall treatment is characteristic of the debased pseudo-imperial style typical of Visigothic gold coinage of the early seventh century, with the royal portrait reduced to a near-abstract representation.
